8Dio Marimba overview

8Dio Marimba is a featured Instrument from our Studio Percussion Series and uses our advanced technique called, Groove Sampling™ that allows you to create hyper-realistic percussive grooves with a single touch of a key. Groove Sampling is a proprietary method developed by 8Dio.

Marimbas are known for there rich, warm, balanced tone. Unlike the Xylophone the Marimba produces soft tones when played with different mallets. The most common mallet used is yarn. This provides the familiar warm tone of the marimba, compared to the xylophone, which sounds much brighter as it uses acrylic mallets.

The 8Dio Marimba contains 12 unique articulations and 3 microphone positions (Close, Mid & Far) all easy-accessed from our front-facing browser. The Marimba was meticulously recorded with six different playing styles, including two different mallets, brushes, bowed, and two separate rolls.

The Marimba is featured from our Studio Orchestral Percussion library which contains 6 deep-sampled percussion instruments including the Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Crotales, and the Tubular Bells. It has always been our mantra to push sampling forward in regard to realism and playability. The Studio Percussion Series is the first series to utilize our proprietary Groove Sampling™ technology and we really think it is going to make compositions richer and easier to create.

Note: This library is also included within the Studio Orchestral Percussion

New Groove Sampling ™ Technique

The core of the 8Dio Marimba revolves around our new and patent-pending Groove Sampling techniques™. Groove Sampling allows you to play any of the 6 instruments with ultra-realistic sound and precision. All patches come with traditional multi-samples and new groove samples, so you can play and mix them side by side. The Groove Samples can either simply be controlled on your modwheel or via our new built-in Mod-Sequencer. You will never go back.

Choose Your Mallets

8Dio Marimba takes the concept of deep-sampling to the next level. We recorded the Marimba with two different mallets s soft/felt mallet and a harder/firmer type of mallet – bringing our very different timbres of the instruments. In addition, we also recorded instruments with brush mallets and even bowed them, so you can create strange sustained sounds with the percussion instruments. Great for musical sound design.

Built-In Browser

The 8Dio Marimba comes with a custom designed built-in browser. The browser offers you access to any articulation with a single click. All the six instruments in this collection are designed this way. The idea is to give you immediate access to anything you want with a single mouse click. We want to shorten the distance between your thought to your creation. One click and you are set.

New Front-Faced FX and Chaos FX

Our Marimba contains two parallel FX systems. The first one is our new Front-Faced FX, which allows you to control the most fundamental effects from the front panel (ex. Dynamics, Filters, Pitch, Delay, Crusher and our new Textural Delay). You can also go deeper with our new Chaos FX system, which includes Step-Based Filtering, EQ, Bit-Crusher, Distortion, Dual Stereo-Delay and an additional convolution system on top of our custom Textural Convolution Delays.

Textural Convolution Delay

Textural Convolution Delay is a new way of using convolution to create textural delays. The idea is to use non-conventional convolution impulses to augment the existing sound. So when the instrument delays – you will not just get a normal delay of the instrument, but also get the delay and texture of the convolution. This concept is called Textural Convolutions.
