CUSTOMIZABLE SOLOISTS & ENSEMBLES


Comprising hundreds of hours of sessions at Scotland’s Premiere Recording Studio, Gorbals Sound, the Intimate Studio Series pushes the boundaries of advanced techniques to achieve a modern, playable, and fully customizable studio sound. Each ensemble contains a comprehensive set of articulations so you can achieve an authentic studio sound, no matter what style of music you write.

Utilizing new and unique isolation technologies, we were able to capture multiple section sizes and ensure all instruments blend seamlessly, allowing you the ability to mix and match. Including soloists and all the various ensemble sizes, there are 256 possible combinations for the Strings alone!

Each instrument or section has its own fully capable mixer with functions such as Solo, Mute, Output Routing, Volume, and Panning, all featured alongside our more advanced offerings. In addition to customizing the number of players for the strings (either from true recordings or mixed/overdubs), we also offer Distance Control, which seamlessly blends between an upfront, dry signal and a wider, more spacious signal.

The Intimate Studio Series gives you direct access to dozens of advanced and unique playing styles and articulations, including tempo-synced articulations and patterns. In addition to customizing the size of the ensemble or selecting soloists, the main patches also allow you to create, balance, and customize your articulation matrix. You can save your favorite configurations and create a custom collection of playing styles that define your sound.

Intimate Studio Strings contains an ensemble of up to 13 musicians (5 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos, and 2 basses), but any combination of players all the way down to soloists can be used as well. The 39 included articulations cover everything from beautiful arcs to detailed layered legato, measured tremolo and tempo-synced portato, and a range of traditional articulations (pizzicato, trills, con sordino, etc). The string effects, including drops and runs, show a lot of personality for more eccentric styles of music, and the precise studio sound makes these strings a no-brainer for pop.

Intimate Studio Brass, including 2 unique solo Trumpets, a solo Trombone, and a solo Bass Trombone, also contains a full set of muted articulations. We experimented with both the somber, softer side of brass as well as the eccentric and unconventional effects found in many pop, swing, and jazz productions.  While not large in numbers, the unique properties of tight, dry, and close studio brass are essential for composing in these styles as well as many other modern compositions.

The Intimate Studio Woodwinds ensemble is a warm quintet comprised of a Flute, Oboe, Cor Anglais (English Horn), Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. These instruments are perfect as highly expressive soloists, or as a full, emotionally invested ensemble. 

If you only need specific instruments, the individual instruments from Intimate Studio Brass and Woodwinds are also available separately. The Soulful Studio Brass series are the same Trumpets, Trombone, and Bass Trombone from Intimate Studio Brass. And the Soulful Studio Woodwinds are the same instruments from Intimate Studio Woodwinds, so feel free to mix and match exactly what you need!

The Intimate Studio Series allows you to load the precise set of articulations needed for your project. With dozens of playing styles organized in four categories (Traditional, Performance, Effects, and Arcs/Muted/Bowed), you can make your own custom patches with your favorite articulations. We have also included individual patches for each articulation.

SOLO OR ENSEMBLE

The Intimate Studio Series was created from hundreds of hours of pristine studio recordings. While the ensembles performed in unison, every player was recorded in true isolation. No matter if you need a soloist or a unique ensemble, you can mix any combination of instruments while maintaining an authentic, believable, and symmetrical ensemble sound.
