5 Extreme Ensembles
One Hall
The 8Dio Extreme Ensemble Series features five one-of-a-kind, 10-piece ensembles: 10 Analog Synths, 10 Electric Guitars, 10 Electric Basses, 10 Acoustic Drum Kits, and 10 Drum Machines. The idea was to take instruments that typically play solo and bring out new sounds by placing them in an ensemble. The sound of each ensemble is unlike anything else - familiar, yet fresh. The way that ensemble instruments blend and interact in the air of this space creates an undeniably magical sound that just doesn't happen any other way.
We recorded these ensembles in our favorite large hall, the same used in Majestica, CAGE, AGE, and more, with a huge assortment of microphones to capture every angle of these unique ensembles. Each ensemble includes 15 microphone perspectives: 5 hall mics (mix, decca, far, wide, and close) along with 10 spot mics or DI (direct input) signals. This allows you to mix the ensembles however you want or utilize solo player(s) in unique ways.
The 10 Analog Synths Ensemble is an incredibly alive-sounding collection of different analog synths in a lush, acoustic environment. These instruments are singing and vibrating in ways you've never heard before! The basses are warmer, wider and fatter. The pads and leads are piercingly strong. We even recorded a variety of articulations both with and without distorted signals. The sound is undeniably huge, but full of life, emotion and atmosphere.
The 10 Electric Guitars Ensemble contains a wealth of articulations divided into three main categories: Shorts, Sustains and Effects. The Shorts contain a variety of spiccato- and staccato-inspired articulations for fast playing, while the Sustains category contains everything from long luxurious notes, with and without vibrato, to sweet harmonics and tremolos. The large guitar Effects section includes slides, punches, feedback, frets, rakes, scrapes, strums, screams, and everything needed to convey the character and personality of these instruments.
This 10 Electric Basses Ensemble includes everything from short to long notes, fingered, picked, and slapped, with and without vibrato, and in several velocity layers. There are takes with and without amped signals as well, so you can get the gorgeous sound of the amps or a more local DI signal from the basses.
The 10 Drum Kits Ensemble is an incredibly powerful mega-kit. We recorded the kits in several ways, with traditional sticks, mallets, brushes, crescendos, and in a savage/tribal style. Using individual spot microphones, you have access to 10 unique kits, which allows you to create your own ensemble and dial in precisely the sound that works with your mix. Or, play the full ensemble and get the beefiest toms you’ve ever heard!
The 10 Drum Machines Ensemble is one of the most powerful ensembles we’ve ever heard! This is partially due to the fact we had all players play different drum machines at the same time and recorded them with both hall and individual spot-microphones. But it is also because the hall created so much variation in the sound that we recorded substantial round-robins (repetition samples). The library also includes a bonus kit with special sounds from drum machines as well as 26 presets, covering the whole gamut of musical styles from epic to ambient.

15 MIC POSITIONS
All the libraries in our Extreme Ensemble Series contain 15 microphone positions: 5 Hall Microphones (Mix, Decca, Far, Wide, and Close) and additional 10 Spot Microphones and DI (Direct Input) signals from the instruments. This allows you to play the ensembles as large groups using hall mics, or separately using the spot mics.
NEW ARPEGGIATOR
We created a new arpeggiator for the Extreme Ensemble Series. It is easy to use and allows you to create elaborate patterns. You can control the rate in all major time signatures, swing, octaves, and repeated notes. You can also use it as a velocity-based step sequencer for any articulation that have velocities! Total freedom.
Unlimited Inspiration.
CHAOS EFFECTS
We customized our popular Chaos Effects for the Extreme Ensemble Series. The Chaos Effects now includes over 130 new Textural Convolution Delays that allows you to create delays with non-instrumental textures. Along with the new Phaser and Flanger, we also have EQ, Bit-Crusher, Distortion, Dual-Stereo Delay, and standard convolutions.
