The Smiley Drum is a one-of-a-kind custom tonal percussion instrument. It was designed and carved by a father and daughter in Mexico many years ago, and they only sold a couple of them on Ebay. We were lucky enough to get one and the Smiley Drum has been in our catalogue for many years (since Kontakt 3)! There is a unique soul in the instrument, and maybe someday it will fit its warm and jolly sound into your composition. Or, perhaps you will make it something entirely different? The choice is yours! That’s what our smiley drum library is all about. It’s a 10-tongue major pentatonic variant of the classic propane drum concept, with a shallower, wider pan than most. It has a simple, crips, bright sound, with more subdued overtones than our Propanium. We recorded single notes on the tuned tongues, percussive slaps on the sides and edges, and various roll and crescendo effects to finish it all off. The result is a very playable collection. It makes for a great additional sonic flavor to complement our other tuned percussion libraries.
This library includes custom front-panel controls and modwheel automation, allowing pitch adjustment of up to +/- 24 semitones, as well as room wetness shaping, going from tight and close to full and lush.
